Kostel sv Anny (St. Anna’s Church)

kostelanny

The church was constructed around 1320; it is a quite atypical brick building with one nave. It is surrounded with buildings of the former Dominican Monastery. Under the floor are the remains of an older Roman rotunda that used to stand there. Later, St. Vavrinec’s Church was constructed next to the rotunda and it served only as presbyterium. This church was abandoned in 1313. The present St. Anna’s Church has unusual gothic roof-works and in 1553, the chronicler Václav Hájek of Libočany was buried here. In 1870, the front tower

and arches were demolished. In some places original gothic paintings – views of Christ’s life – have remained. This building is under the care of Mr. and Mrs. Havel.
